On September 29 at 19:00, Baltic Analog Lab and festival Skaņu mežs invite you for two sound performances by current artists-in-residence Adomas Palekas (LT) and Sofija Zaiceva (LV). This event is part of our ongoing Resonance (pre-Process) Residence series.

Adomas Palekas is a sound and bio artist, working with environmentally entangled sound practices. With self-derived interfaces and instruments of extended phenotype, He sonically investigates complex non-human worlds beyond our sensory perception: microbial metabolism and growth, (in)organic matter and chemical reactions, all of which become the primary compositional forces in his emergent sound works. His works have been presented in various spaces across Europe, also international festivals such as "Archipel", “REWIRE“, "Oscillations", “Gaudeamus“, Venice Architecture Biennial. He's actively involved with DIY community Retrito Smarsas. During his residency at BAL, Adomas was researching new extended instrument designs as well as exploring microbial transformations of analog recording media: magnetic tape and celluloid film (together with Julita Venslovaitė).

Sofija Zaiceva (Sofi) is a Latvian sound artist and performer. With a background that spans classical piano training and electroacoustic composition through live coding and the DJ scene, she has developed a distinctive approach to experimental electronic music that prioritises an open-source philosophy and creative live coding. Through contemplation on digital obsession, she excavates the relational qualities of sonic environments, revealing how digital processes can articulate deeply human experiences.

During her residency at BAL she was experimenting and researching new approaches to data hijacking and digital archaeology, creating custom sound processing chains based on SuperCollider codes that are inserted onto discarded old devices such as iPhones, right before its final sound outputs. These techniques will also be used during her new performance at Skaņu Mežs festival this October.

Resonance (pre-Process) Residence is event series showcasing created works within BAL and Saņu mežs residence by the residing artists who spent month in BAL lab creating films or working with Erica Synths modular synths at our residency space.

The event will take place in the Baltic Analog Lab 2nd-floor residence rooms, Lienes iela 19a.
