Resonance Residence
Baltic Analog Lab
On June 27 at 19:00, Baltic Analog Lab and festival Skaņu mežs invites you for our new event series called “Resonance Residence” showcasing performances by current artists-in-residence Juan Duarte Regino (MX), Tianjiao Wang (CN) and Alasdair Asmussen Doyle (AU).
Juan Duarte Regino is a media artist from Mexico City, based in Finland. His research explores weather attunement and atmospheric listening. This is not his first time working in Riga - in 2023, he had an exhibition at the RIXC gallery, and has participated in the festival Sound Days in Liepāja. During his stay at BAL Residency Juan worked on the composition for his upcoming exhibition at MO Museum in Vilnius in autumn 2026.
Tianjiao Wang is an artist and filmmaker based in Beijing. During her residency at BAL, she used the optical printer to further manifest her imagination of the seagulls she had filmed in flight. Through movement, color, and rhythm, she hopes to make the film burn with the same intensity and vitality she envisions for life itself. Following the seagulls, she found herself drawn to other images in Yunnan, China—scenes of spring, newly emerging shoots, and a primal, unadorned sense of vitality.
Alasdair Asmussen Doyle is an Australian artist and filmmaker living in Brussels, Belgium. Working across film, installation and research, his practice traces the ways in which animal and plant life have been historically captured through image practices, while exploring the potential of the moving-image to better articulate non-human realities. For this presentation, Alasdair will share his recent film ‘Original Night’, which follows a colony of wallabies living on a Scottish island, alongside footage shot while on residency of great cormorants.
Residence (pre-Process) Residence is event series showcasing created works within BAL and Saņu mežs residence by the residing artists who spent month in BAL lab creating films or working with Erica Synths modular synths at our residency space.
The event will take place in the Baltic Analog Lab 2nd-floor residence rooms, Lienes iela 19a.
Event language: English.
Free admission, drinks for donation.
Residency is supported by the Latvian State Culture Capital Foundation, Riga City Council
