On August 28 at 19:00, Baltic Analog Lab and festival Skaņu mežs invite you for two sound performances by current artist-in-residence Joe Stratton (USA) and Latvian sound artist Paula Vītola. This event is part of our ongoing Resonance (pre-Process) Residence series.

Joe Stratton (aka Bothelbows) is a New York-based musician and sound designer specializing in spatial audio. His work explores how sound behaves in physical space - using Ambisonics, 4DSOUND, and live performance to create environments where listeners encounter sound in unexpected ways. He is a member of the theatrical rock group Not Blood Paint.

During his time in Riga he has been capturing field recordings, sampling BAL’s modular synths, and riding around on a Skok moped. He will be presenting works in progress.

Paula Vītola is an interdisciplinary artist based in Liepaja, Latvia. Trained in the fields of media and visual arts her artistic interests have shifted mostly towards sound art. In her artistic practice she is experimenting with natural and physical phenomena such as light, radio and electricity. Vītola has developed multiple instruments  that generate sounds from stroboscopic light and moving shadows. The sounds are created in the visual output of the instrument – catching photons in space and turning them into various noises, tones, beats; sculpting the sounds with hand movements in real time

Resonance (pre-Process) Residence is event series showcasing created works within BAL and Saņu mežs residence by the residing artists who spent month in BAL lab creating films or working with Erica Synths modular synths at our residency space.

The event will take place in the Baltic Analog Lab 2nd-floor residence rooms, Lienes iela 19a.
