Resonance (pre-Process) Residence October
Baltic Analog Lab
with J. “Mo ’ong” Santoso Pribadi (ID), Vern Avola (USA)
On October 20 at 19:00, Baltic Analog Lab and festival Skaņu mežs invite you for two sound performances by current artists-in-residence Vern Avola (USA) and J. “Mo’ong” Santoso Pribadi (ID). This event is part of our ongoing Resonance (pre-Process) Residence series.
Veronica “Vern” Avola is a self-taught musician, sound and multimedia artist, graphic designer, radio nerd and champion of friendship based in Portland, Oregon. She runs her own label, EMS Records.
Her music has been described as "bone-crunching beats, wailing electronics, and multi-layered noisescapes" and "fractured, warped, and beautifully deranged."
This year Vern was a part of “Skaņu mežs” festival program. During her residency, she has been experimenting with and recording synthesizers designed and made here in Riga to expand her library of soundscapes and samples in preparation for new music that has yet to take shape. Makers include Erica Synths, Gamechanger Audio and Elta.
J. “Mo’ong” Santoso Pribadi is an Indonesian experimental music composer, sound artist, and instrument builder based in Vilnius, Lithuania. Born in Bangkok and raised in Java, his practice develops around sound, material, listening, and the ways music can emerge through making and collaboration. He explores sound and composition through the diversity of elements of Nusantara - Indonesian music. He is part of the duo Takkak Takkak.
Resonance (pre-Process) Residence is event series showcasing created works within BAL and Skaņu mežs residence by the residing artists who spent month in BAL lab creating films or working with Erica Synths modular synths as well as Gamechanger audio equipment at our residency space.
The event will take place in the Baltic Analog Lab 2nd-floor residence rooms, Lienes iela 19a.
