Artists in Residence James Skerritt (IE) Marin Escande (FR) and Alex Raja Ven (CAN)
Baltic Analog Lab
On October 30, at 20.00, Baltic Analog Lab and the Skaņu Mežs invite you to an analog film screening and audio performances by the September artists-in-residence: James Skerritt (IE), Marin Escande (FR) and Alex Raja Ven (CAN).
James Skerritt is an Irish Director, Director of Photography and Editor working mainly between narrative and documentary genres. During his time in Riga he has been experimenting with natural development using local ingredients to process Super8 and 16mm footage.
Marin Escande is a French composer who studied at Tokyo University of the Arts and the Paris Conservatoire. Over the past year, alongside his compositional work, he has collaborated with architects, scenographers, and photographers to explore and recontextualize sound across diverse media and performance environments.
While in BAL residency, Marin has been experimenting with various sound sources like optical sound and modular synthesis.
Alex Raja Ven is a Lebanese-Canadian artist working across sound, video, and installation, exploring the relationships between humans, nature, and technology. Her practice is grounded in field recording, analog and digital synthesis, and experimental image-making, often incorporating personal archives and alternative processes. During the residency, they used contact microphones to examine the subsurface environments of forests and peat bogs.
The event will take place in the Baltic Analog Lab 2nd-floor residence rooms, Lienes iela 19a.
Event language: English.
Free admission, drinks for donation.
Baltic Analog Lab Residency is supported by the Latvian State Culture Capital Foundation.
